A rice factory constructed under the One District One Factory project under the Ministry of Trade and Industry has been abandoned after its commissioning.
The factory, situated at Bokaso in the Akontombra district of the Western North region cost the government about GHC6.7 million expected to produce between 1.5 and 2.8 tonnes of rice per hour.
After commissioning the factoring in September 2021, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the factory was going to provide a 118 direct employment, including management, as well as over 600 farmers who would be producing the rice.
Two years down the line, the factory is yet to produce a grain of rice after its commissioning.
Onua News’ visit to the factory saw a locked up entrance with weeds taking over the packed tractors in the premises.
