‘Let’s look sharp’ when they come with their opposition message – Samira jabs Ken Agyapong

Second Lady Samira Bawumia has shot a salvoe on Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyappong over comments that he will drag the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to opposition should he lose the November 4 presidential primary.

The Second Lady says the 2024 elections is a crucial one for the NPP, the reason they should not make a mistake to lose power to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to some party delegates in the Amansie constituency of the Ashanti region, Samira Bawumia noted urged the gathering to vote for a candidate who would not be a mere flag bearer for the party but can go ahead to win them power in the general elections.

She said the determination of the delegates “tells me we are ready to win the 2024 elections.”

“We need show in our utterances that this election is very consequential for the party and for that reason we need not to make any mistake but rather show a united front. That is why should all rally behind who can win us the power. But those who campaigning with pain and anger, saying we should go to opposition if things do not go their way, do we accept such stance?”

Casting innuendos that pointed at Ken Agyapong, the Assin Central lawmaker, Mrs Bawumia said his lamentations of neglection by the party would not be resolved should the NPP go to opposition.

She charged the gathering to forbid anyone that preaches opposition as an alternative for not wining the presidential candidacy, since they stand to lose more.

Samira Bawumia told the delegates to look sharp when such persons come with their message.

“You claim you’ve been taken for a fool without getting anything from the government. I want to know; would you get anything when you go to opposition. Do you have any Minister, DCE to be asking for favours when you are in opposition? So maybe he is full, his wife is full, his children are full, he has no issues so when he drags you along [to opposition], he is not having any problem so let’s look sharp,” she urged.

The NPP goes to the poll Saturday, November 4, 2023, to choose from four candidates, a flag bearer for the 2024 general elections.

The four candidates are former Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
