IED planted by Boko Haram terrorists kills 21 mourners in Yobe

At least 21 mourners, mostly children and women, were killed when a tricycle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe State.

 

According to Daily Trust, the bomb exploded in Goni in Mittiri village near Gumsa town in Geidam local government area of the state, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, killing 18 persons instantly. 

 

The attack occurred after the victims attended the burial of the youths killed by the terrorists over failure to pay tax. 

 

“18 persons, mostly children and women died instantly while 3 died at General Hospital in Geidam when they were receiving medical treatment,” a source told the Daily Trust.

 

“Recently they (Boko Haram) have increased their attacks on civilians, farmers and herders,” the source added. 

 

Another source said, “So far 21 persons have been confirmed dead while four people with minor injuries were left in the village,”

 

“The Jega tricycle was loaded with over 30 people who were picked-up to return them to their villages.” 

 

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, who confirmed the incident said 20 persons had been confirmed dead in Monday attack.
