The urgent presence of the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation in Parliament is being sought by the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, to respond to the alleged sale of Vodafone Ghana on credit.

Mr. Iddrisu, in a submission he made in Parliament Tuesday, October 31, 2023, and posted on X, formerly Twitter, alleged that the billion-dollar asset that belongs to Ghana has been sold on credit for a paltry US$100 million.

He said the minster, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful must come and explain to the House.

“Mr. Speaker on my own accord, I want the Hon. Minister of Communications to come and respond to this House, whether it is true that Vodafone, a US$1 billion asset of the Republic of Ghana has been sold on credit for less than US$100 million and what the state of that transaction is, as an economic transaction within the meaning of Article 185 of the 1992 Constitution and probably also to update this House on the withering away of Ghana’s telecom landscape and this trend,” he said on the floor of Parliament.

He lamented further over the telecom sector which used to be an avenue of revenue for the government but has withered away under this administration, demanding an explanation from the minister to that effect.

“The telecom sector used to be a major revenue source for the government but we are hearing that Vodafone has been sold out on credit at $1 billion worth at less than a $100million. The Minister must come and answer the withering away of our telecom sector and our inability to pay revenue to the government,” he indicated.

Like the proverbial blind man who doesn’t threaten in vain, the former Minority Leader assured the Minister of Agric who appeared to be casting doubt over his assertion that he is above speculation.

“But more importantly, you know I don’t speculate, Minister for Agric, you know that I’m above speculation. I’m like the blind man, when I say I’ll throw you a stone, I’m standing on a stone,” he was confident.
