The Ghana Kidney Association has entreated members of the public to live healthy lifestyles to protect their kidneys by adhering to treatment of risk factors like hypertension, diabetes and avoiding abuse of pain killers and herbs.
The Association says it has taken note of recent public discussions on kidney and cost of dialysis in the country.
This follows the over 100 per cent increase in cost of dialysis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Although the Hospital has reversed the payment, it has triggered a national discourse on cost of dialysis and affordability for patients who are already burdened with other medical costs aside the dialysis session.
President of the Association, Prof. Sampson Antwi in a press release disclosed the Association is engaging stakeholders to make dialysis accessible and affordable to the general public.
The Ghana Kidney Association is encouraging the patients diagnosed with kidney disease to seek early treatment to slow down the disease progression.
