General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong has said the resignation of Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen from the party “is a very unfortunate situation that happened but at the end of the day, it has happened, you can’t continue to cry over spilled milk.”

He has explained that the NPP is focused on the November 4 primary and has opened its doors to embrace anything that will help them break the ‘8’ come 2024.

According to him, since the constitution of the committee overseeing affairs of the party’s elections, there has been a cordial relationship between them and the aspirants with the latter testifying to the former’s works prior to the August 26 super delegates’ conference that triggered Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation.

Speaking with Keminni Amanor on TV3’s Hot Issues Sunday, October 29, 2023, Mr. Kodua Frimpong said the party leadership was expecting a clear instance with evidence where someone was attacked during the elections rather than the mere speculations.

He noted that people who make allegations should be able to prove them to give some value to their allegations.

“I will respectfully disagree with the statement by Mr. Kyerematen. Since we constituted this presidential election committee, at every stage and at every point in time, there was that close collaboration between the committee and the aspirants to the extent that on the Thursday, before the Saturday, 26, they themselves the aspirants in their own words stated that they are very satisfied with the work by the committee so they were all satisfied till the Saturday.

“We were looking at instances where one can point clearly with evidence that maybe supporter A or B is being attacked,” he was worried.

He continued that there are people within the rank and file of the party who expressly supported their respective candidates without being vilified, making Mr. Kyerematen’s assertion ill-fated.

“In this government, we had ministers who were cabinet members, supporting Alan Kyerematen, there was no point did we hear, even one or two complaining he or she had been vilified for supporting Mr. Kyerematen. You go to Parliament where we have 137 members. You can’t say that all of them were supporting one particular candidate. They all have their respective candidates that they support. None of them have come out to complain so it’s rather unfortunate that such a statement was made by him,” he said.

He pointed out further that, the laws of the land permits one to join a party at his or her own will and leave when he feels the ideals of the party has differed from what he believed in, adding that the NPP’s ultimate aim is to win the 2024 polls and if Alan Kyerematen’s comeback is what will do the magic for them, they are in for it.

“But for political parties, even our constitution is very clear, everyone has a right to join a political party at one point in time and if at one point in time one perceives that what he thinks is not in tandem with one particular party, the person has every right to back out or to leave the political party.

“Our focus is to win the 2024 elections and for anything that has to be done for us to win the elections, we are all out for it. He decided to opt out of our political party and if for one or two reasons he wants to come back, as a General Secretary of the party, I have no problem with that,” Mr. Kodua Frimpong indicated.
