A Deputy Communications Director for the largest opposition political party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ako Gunn has described attacks at the party’s office in Odododiodo as uncharacteristic of the NDC.
He hinted that the party is taking all the necessary steps to investigate the matter in order to bring the people involved to book.
Ako Gunn was speaking to Accra-based OKAY FM when he made this known.
“They vetted and approved three candidates for the elections. These candidates did balloting for their numbers on the ballot papers. After that, they came out and spoke to their supporters.
However, some party members who were there were of the belief that one of the candidates did not qualify and therefore did not have the right to be on the ballot. They went on a rampage to register their displeasure at the decision made by the vetting committee. They did not have access to the room where the vetting took place so they destroyed some chairs that were in front of the office.
Just like we stated in our press release, this is bad in every way and needs to be condemned. This is unlike the NDC, and we are taking steps to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book,” he said.

Chaos occurred at the NDC’s Greater Accra Regional office in South La, where three individuals—Nii Okai Laryea, Kotey Ashie, and Michael Nii Yarboi Annang—were facing the committee in the hope of succeeding the incumbent MP, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, who is not seeking re-election.
The Odododiodio Constituency was unable to participate in the February 2023 vetting exercise due to outstanding issues that the party needed to resolve.
Friday’s vetting was to determine the fate of the three aspirants for the party’s parliamentary primary, which is slated for Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
